How would you like to save your company money? I know, everyone wants to save money, don't they?
Does your company have one of those new Internet phone systems? Did you install it to save money on your long distance bills? Did you know that it can actually cost you a lot of money in long distance bills?
There are a lot of people install Internet phone systems (also known as VoIP (voice over IP) phone systems) nowadays. With the rise in bandwidth available on Internet connections, and improvements in the handling of VoIP phone calls over the Internet, VoIP is growing and becoming more ubiquitous. That being said, VoIP has a lurking problem. Often times when it has been set up, it has been set up by the company's computer guy, who has been asked to set up VoIP to save the company money. He reads up on the Internet on how to set up Asterisk (a popular open source, free VoIP phone system), and sets up the phone system for the company.
Fast forward a couple of months, and a few long distance service providers in the US, the Middle East, Africa and Asia have determined there's a VoIP server in your office. They've also determined that your tech guy set it up for you and because he didn't have any experience in setting up VoIP servers, left a security hole in the VoIP phone system software. The long distance service providers go to town on it, and you get a phone call from your service provider either telling you your long distance service has been suspended because you've gotten $2,000 worth of calls in a couple of minutes, or they think you've got really deep pockets and at the end of the month you get a bill for $25,000.
At Westwood Village Consulting, we have more than 8 years of experience working with VoIP, and Asterisk PBX specifically. We can perform a full security audit of your phone system, fix the problems identified, and possibly save you some additional money (depending on how you use your phone system).
